our story
In 2002 Tristan Hogg and Jon Simon hatched a plan – to create the most delicious and wholesome pie the British public had ever tasted. With Tristan’s formal chef training and Jon’s experience of running successful London pubs (and the added bonus of being brothers-in-law!) they set about perfecting the first range of pies from a lowly basement in the heart of their hometown, Bristol.
In June 2003 the first official pieminister pie was born. Soon to follow was a pie shop in Bristol with a kitchen and a junior minister. Tristan rolled, baked and cooked while Jon tended the shop and wholesale business.
In 2004, not long after the launch of the Bristol shop, Tristan and Jon were invited to be the only pie stall at London’s Borough Market. This was the ‘break’ the pie boys needed.
pieminister pies are now sold in the best delis, food halls, farmer’s markets and pubs throughout the UK as well as in pieminister cafés in Bristol, London, Oxford and Trentham. The pies are now also available nationwide through a number or supermarkets. This website features a mail order service delivering chilled fresh pies direct to your door.
The PMobile (pies on the move) is a regular attraction at summer music festivals and pieminister also has its fair share of celebrity fans – we know Kate Moss enjoys munching our pies, we have delivered David Beckham his fix in America and John Cleese asked for a batch on a visit to Bristol. We’ve also heard that Dannii Minogue loves the heidi pie and the chicken of aragon is apparently a real favourite with Julie Walters and Keira Knightley.
In 2008 pieminister moved to larger premises to accommodate the surge in demand for their gourmet offerings. The menu now includes real sausage rolls, mini pies (pieMINIsters) for those with smaller appetites and sweet pies.
Each and every one of pieminister’s original range of pies is an award winner - they contain only fresh, responsibly sourced, free range, natural ingredients many of which are sourced from the West Country.
pieminister remains a family-run business, making all its products in-house where Jon and Tristan still personally oversee the making and baking of them all.
