Pedal for Temwa Powered by pies

Jun 1 2015

If you like cycling and pies it’s time you signed up for Temwa’s favourite annual fundraiser:

80 Miles Around the West.

Spend a weekend (the 13th to 14th June 2015) cycling from Bristol to Devizes and back to raise funds for our Bristol neighbours – the Northern Malawi development charity – Temwa.

Suitable for all abilities, all you need is a bike and a healthy appetite for pies.

Temwa 1

Team Pieminister will be out in force and together with our fellow Temwa supporters, we’ll meander along cycle paths and tow-paths taking in some of the West Country’s most beautiful stretches of canal and countryside.

Temwa 2

As well as a few pub stops along the way, Kenneth our vintage pie van will serve up lunch so we can refuel with pies. And on Saturday night we’ll set up camp-  which is free for all cyclists –  at the Three Magpies Pub on the edge of the Kennet & Avon canal.  With delicious food and a well-stocked bar, we’ll hit the sack well fed and watered, ready to cycle home the next day.

Sounds fun doesn’t it?  If you want come along for the ride and help raise funds for Temwa’s Community Forest Project email russ@temwa.org.

Taking part will mean Temwa’s project workers will be able to plant yet more life-giving trees in Nkhata Bay North, helping to combat the devastating effects of deforestation in Malawi.

Temwa 3

We’re also baking two special ‘buy one get one tree’ pies, available nationwide all summer.  Every time you buy one, Temwa gets one tree!

By the end of the summer Pieminister hopes to have raised enough money through pie sales to plant a forest in Nkhata Bay North in Malawi as part of Temwa’s Community Forest Project.  Deforestation is a huge problem in this part of Malawi. In the last ten years, 30% of its forests have been destroyed as communities rely on cutting down and using the trees to survive.  Through Temwa’s projects, the planting of new trees in the region is literally helping people grow their way out of poverty and into a more sustainable and independent future.
